![]() ![]() ![]() Sarah is currently a Rubenstein Fellow at Duke, where she has taught and led a Bass Connections team on cybersecurity which produced the website and booklet “Cybersecurity for American Families: A Ten Step Data Security Guide for the People You Love.” At Duke, she has lectured and led discussions, seminars and classes across the university including at the Law School, Sanford School of Public Policy, Kenan Institute for Ethics, the Global Financial Markets Center, Duke Center on Risk, and Fuqua. As Commissioner, she galvanized her agency to mitigate the effects of the financial crisis on Maryland’s people and its community financial institutions. Sarah’s common-woman-and-common-man philosophy of economic policy was shaped at the state and local level, where she served as Maryland’s Commissioner of Financial Regulation from 2007 to 2009, the period of the mortgage foreclosure crisis. She infused her service with a strong public perspective, emphatically incorporating the values of strong consumer protection, broad economic justice, diversity and inclusion, and public service excellence. At the Fed, she conducted the nation’s monetary policy as a member of the Federal Open Market Committee, directly regulated banks, monitored threats to the nation's financial stability, and oversaw the nation’s payments systems. Prior to her service at Treasury, Sarah was a Governor of the Federal Reserve Board from 2010 to 2014.
